This is where I would like to go on a bit of a tangent, but I cannot.
I can’t.
It is possible to be a manager without being a manager. The main reason people become managers is that they start managing people. In fact, the most effective managers are the ones who manage no one! Managers get people to do things for them, and that is what allows them to have any true impact on their business. The problem is that if you run a business you need to get people in line and get them to do things you wish they wouldn’t.
You will always need to think in terms of people, to get them to do what you want. You cannot get people to do what you want, without them realizing it. This is where the saying, “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel” comes from.
I disagree. People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did. But this does not mean you will forget what you said. It means that you did something. The ability to make people feel safe, comfortable, comfortable with something you did, is at the core of what makes a successful business person.
This is the kind of thing where we as a society would be better off if business leaders took more of a leadership role in their companies. This is why it’s important for leaders to be honest and transparent with their employees.
There are so many things we are too lazy to do as a human (or as the CEO of a company). We are supposed to be the highest form of business leaders, but in business, the role of the CEO is to get shit done, not to fix all of the things we were too lazy to do (or if we did, we are not the best at it).
Most companies don’t have an effective CEO and that’s because the role of the CEO is just not that important anymore. Companies have become incredibly efficient at doing the same things more efficiently and faster so in reality, the role of CEO is a glorified janitor. The CEO is supposed to be the leader of the company but we are seeing more and more CEO’s who are acting as a middle manager, not a leader.
The CEO is not the leader, it is the person who has the most direct and immediate view of everything that happens in the organization. We cannot have a CEO who is constantly checking the airwaves, making phone calls, and watching the stock price. The CEO is the person who has the most direct and immediate view of what’s going on.
