To solve some problems, you need a basic understanding of what the problem is. To solve a business problem, you have to actually know what the problem is, and you have to be willing to put yourself in a place so that you can solve it.
A drawback of conducting primary research into a problem is that you can get away with a lot of the same mistakes you make when doing research into a business problem. For example, consider that your problem is that you can’t actually run a business through a number of different methods. Instead, you need to find out exactly what it is that is going to pay for it.
If your primary research is based on data gathered from various sources that you know nothing about, then you will probably fall right back into the same old mistakes that were made when doing research into a business problem. For example, you will probably be able to get away with an assumption that a particular problem can be solved with a particular method, but that assumption will be wrong.
Of course, the easiest thing to do is to find out for yourself. Most companies are doing this, and if you have a particular problem in mind then start by learning about the market, the industry, and the problems involved. Then look at the different methods available and see which ones give you the best return on your investment. Your first step is not to do what everyone else is doing, however.
I think you’re right – it’s not a big deal. There are plenty of people who have been doing research on a topic long before you found out about it. For example, people studying the music industry, and there was a huge amount of research done on the music industry. But this research was not done by anyone looking for a new method of production. It was done by people studying the music business long before anyone had ever heard of it.

This is also why we don’t conduct primary research on everything – we always conduct secondary research on things that we think might have potential value. You can always hire someone who did it for you, or you can contact some of the people who do it, or you can ask your family or friends to do it for you. You don’t need to research to learn anything you don’t already know.
